چکیده

Marine sponges contain secondary metabolites with unique chemical structures and very interesting pharmacological activities, such as antibacterial, anticancer, antiviral others to be developed candidate drugs. The presence of bioactive in sessile nature also reflects the ecological adaptation formed during a long evolutionary process defense mechanism this organism its environment form resistance predation, competition infection factors against pathogenic bacteria, so study aims examine antibacterial activity extracts fractions Stylissa carteri sponge well testing Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) Bactericidal (MBC) values. method used is agar diffusion (Disc Diffusion Kirby Bauer Method). was indicated by formation clear zone around paper disc after incubation for 24 hours. results showed that S. extract tested on Bacillus megaterium DSM32T bacteria revealed strongest inhibition 21 mm. Further fraction semipolar strong B. while polar categorized moderate action, non-polar no bacteria. determination MIC MBC values obtained at 500 ppm 1000 respectively.

Exploring seascape genetics and kinship in the reef sponge Stylissa carteri in the Red Sea

A main goal of population geneticists is to study patterns of gene flow to gain a better understanding of the population structure in a given organism. To date most efforts have been focused on studying gene flow at either broad scales to identify barriers to gene flow and isolation by distance or at fine spatial scales in order to gain inferences regarding reproduction and local dispersal. Few...

Latonduines A and B, new alkaloids isolated from the marine sponge Stylissa carteri: structure elucidation, synthesis, and biogenetic implications.

[structure: see text] Latonduines A (6) and B (7), two new alkaloids with unprecedented heterocyclic skeletons, have been isolated from the Indonesian marine sponge Stylissa carteri. The structures of the latonduines were elucidated by analysis of spectroscopic data and confirmed by the total synthesis of latonduine A (6). It is proposed that ornithine is the biogenetic precursor to the aminopy...

Alkaloids from the Sponge Stylissa carteri Present Prospective Scaffolds for the Inhibition of Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 (HIV-1)

The sponge Stylissa carteri is known to produce a number of secondary metabolites displaying anti-fouling, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer activity. However, the anti-viral potential of metabolites produced by S. carteri has not been extensively explored. In this study, an S. carteri extract was HPLC fractionated and a cell based assay was used to evaluate the effects of HPLC fractions on pa...

miRNA Repertoires of Demosponges Stylissa carteri and Xestospongia testudinaria

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small regulatory RNAs that are involved in many biological process in eukaryotes. They play a crucial role in modulating genetic expression of their targets, which makes them integral components of transcriptional regulatory networks. As sponges (phylum Porifera) are commonly considered the most basal metazoan, the in-depth capture of miRNAs from these organisms provides ...

Isolation of ASR7 Actinomycete Isolated from S12 Demospongia Marine Sponge and Study of Its Antibacterial Activity

Background and Aims: Marine Actinomycetes are gram-positive bacteria that sometimes are free, saprophytic or plant and animal-associated, including marine sponges. More than 75% of antibiotics and antimicrobial compounds are produced by actinomycetes. In recent years, due to the need for new drugs, marine microorganisms have been considered as new sources of potential production of significant ...
